Short answer: An energy healing session is a guided, complementary wellness appointment that may combine conversation, breath, visualization, sound and hands-on or hands-off energy work. The exact format varies by practitioner. A good session should leave you informed about what is happening, free to set boundaries, and clear that it does not replace medical or mental health care.
What is an energy healing session?
“Energy healing” describes a family of practices rather than one standardized protocol. At Albi Transformation, sessions are described as individualized work that can include an energy assessment, guided breath, sound, visualization and simple somatic practices. The purpose is to create a focused space for noticing what is happening in your body, emotions and attention—not to promise a guaranteed outcome.
You do not need a particular belief system or previous experience. You can be curious, skeptical, spiritual, or simply tired of carrying the same tension. The most useful starting point is a specific intention such as “I want to feel more grounded after a difficult month” or “I want to understand why I keep shutting down in this situation.”
What happens before the session?
Before an appointment, you will usually share what brought you in and what kind of support you are looking for. You do not need to tell your entire life story. A concise description of the situation, the way it shows up for you, and what you hope to explore is enough to begin.
- Choose one main intention and keep a second question in reserve.
- Wear clothing that lets you sit, lie down or move comfortably.
- Allow a few quiet minutes before the appointment so you are not arriving mid-rush.
- Tell the practitioner about physical limitations, touch preferences, medication concerns or anything that would help you feel safe.
For a virtual session, choose a private place where you can see and hear clearly. Keep water nearby and silence notifications. You may be invited to stand, use the floor around you, close your eyes or focus on a point in the room; you should always be able to opt out.
What happens during an energy healing session?
1. A short check-in
The session starts by narrowing the focus. The practitioner may ask what you have noticed lately, where you feel tension, and what would make the time useful. This is also the right moment to ask how the session will be structured and whether touch is part of the work.
2. Guided attention and energy work
Depending on the approach, you may remain seated or lie down while the practitioner uses hands-on or hands-off techniques, guided breathing, sound, visualization or gentle movement. You may notice warmth, coolness, emotion, images, tiredness, relaxation or nothing obvious at all. There is no required sensation that proves the session worked.
3. Integration
A responsible session leaves room to pause and describe your experience in ordinary language. You might identify one small practice to try at home, such as a few minutes of steady breathing, a body scan or a grounding routine. The goal is not to turn every feeling into a mystical explanation; it is to help you leave with more choice and a practical next step.
How should you feel after energy healing?
People respond differently. You may feel calmer, emotionally open, reflective, sleepy or unchanged. None of those reactions is a guarantee of benefit, and discomfort is not evidence that a session was “working.” Give yourself a little transition time if possible. Drink water, eat normally, write down useful observations and avoid making major decisions solely because of an intense moment in a session.
If you feel distressed, disoriented or physically unwell, stop the practice and seek appropriate support. A practitioner should welcome questions and should never discourage you from contacting a licensed clinician.
What energy healing can—and cannot—do
Energy healing can offer a structured pause, help you pay attention to your lived experience, and support reflective or spiritual practices. It may be meaningful as a complement to other forms of care. It cannot diagnose disease, replace psychotherapy, treat an emergency, or guarantee relief from pain, anxiety, depression or another health condition.
Evidence also depends on the exact method. For example, the U.S. National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health says Reiki is generally safe but has not been clearly shown to be effective for health-related purposes, and that the proposed energy field has not been scientifically established. Reiki is one specific practice; this evidence should not be stretched into a claim about every form of energy work. Read the NCCIH overview of Reiki for the full context.
Questions to ask before booking
- What exactly happens in a first session?
- Is touch used, and can I choose hands-off work?
- What training or experience informs your approach?
- How do you handle emotional distress or a situation outside your scope?
- What is the price, length, cancellation policy and follow-up process?
- How do you work alongside medical or mental health care?
Clear answers are a positive sign. Be cautious if anyone promises to cure a condition, tells you to stop prescribed care, pressures you into a package, or treats your boundaries as resistance.
Is an online session a good option?
Online work can be useful when travel, privacy or location makes an in-person appointment difficult. The tradeoff is practical: you need a quiet space, a stable connection and enough room to participate comfortably. Ask in advance whether the session is mostly conversational, guided, movement-based or hands-off, and what happens if the call drops.
Albi Transformation offers virtual and online sessions as well as energy healing in NYC and online. If you are unsure which format fits, use the contact form to describe what you are looking for before booking.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to believe in energy healing?
No. Curiosity is enough. You can treat the session as a complementary reflective practice and pay attention to whether the format, boundaries and conversation feel useful to you.
Can energy healing cure anxiety or trauma?
No responsible practitioner should promise that. Energy healing may be used as a complementary practice, but anxiety, trauma and other health concerns deserve assessment and care from appropriately licensed professionals.
How many sessions will I need?
There is no universal number. Start with one clearly defined intention, evaluate how the session felt and whether it supported your goals, and decide from there. You should never feel pressured to buy a series.
